About us

 Welcome!

We're glad you're here. We'll be happy to assist you in getting to know us, and getting you or your family connected to Memorial in ways that are both helpful and meaningful. Below is some basic information to get you started.

What We Believe

We believe that the Bible is the absolute authority in all matters of Christian faith and practice and that God’s Word teaches the following doctrines which we accept:

  • Bible

The Bible is infallible, inerrant, reliable, and sufficient written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, and that it has the supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct. (II Timothy 3:16; II Peter 1:20, 21; Mark 13:31; John 8:31,32; and John 20:30,31)

  • God

There is one living and true God, eternally and simultaneously existing in three persons, God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. We believe that each person of the Trinity executes distinct but harmonious offices in the work of creation, providence and redemption. (Genesis 1:1, 26; John 1:1, 3; Matthew 28:19; John 4:24; Romans 1:20; and Ephesians 4:4-6)

    • God the Father is an infinite, personal spirit, perfect in holiness, wisdom, power and love. We believe that he infallibly foreknows all that shall come to pass, that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of men, that He hears and answers prayer and that He saves us from sin and death if we come to Him through His son, Jesus Christ. (Matthew 23:9; John 3:16; I Timothy 1:1, 2; 2:5; I Peter 1:3; and Revelation 1:5-6)
    • God the Son (Jesus Christ) is God’s only begotten Son. We believe in Jesus’ conception by the Holy Spirit, virgin birth, sinless life, miracles, death on the cross, physical resurrection from the dead, ascension to heaven, and His promise to return to earth. (Matthew 1:18-25; Luke 1:26-38; John 1:1-5; II Corinthians 5:21; I Peter 2:21-24; John 20:30, 31; Matthew 20:28; Acts 1:11; Romans 5:6-8; 6:8-11; Hebrews 7:25; 9:28; and I Peter 1:3)
    • God the Holy Spirit came forth from the Father and Son to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment; and to regenerate, sanctify, and empower all who believe in Jesus Christ. We believe the Holy Spirit indwells in every believer in Jesus Christ, and that He is an abiding helper, teacher and guide. (John 14:16, 17, 26; 15:26, 27; John 16:8-14; Romans 8:9; I Corinthians 3:16; 6:19; Galatians 5:22-26)
  • Humanity

Human life is the gift of God that begins at conception and ends at God’s sovereignly appointed time. God created humanity in His own image as male and female. Although created as “very good” and innocent, humanity, after tempted by the devil, chose to rebel against the righteous rule of God. As a result, humanity was separated from God and became enslaved and inclined to self-rule and rebellion against God. Humanity’s most righteous acts are helpless to compensate for its sin and so, apart from God, remains spiritually dead and in need of redemption. (Genesis 1:26-30; 2:5,7,18-22; 3; 9:6; Psalms 1; 8:3-6; 32:1-5; 51:5; Isaiah 6:5; Jeremiah 17:5; Matthew 16:26; Acts 17:26-31; Romans 1:19-32; 3:10-20,21-26; 5:6,12,19; 6:6; 7:14-25; 8:14-18,29-30; 1 Corinthians 1:21-31; 15:19,21-22; Ephesians 2:1-22; Colossians 1:21-22; 3:9-11; Psalm 139:13-16; Exodus 21:22-25; Genesis 1:26-27; Jeremiah 1:5; Matt. 5:21)

  • Marriage

Marriage was the first institution established by God and is the holy union of one who was born physiologically a man with one who was born physiologically a woman in covenant commitment for a lifetime. Sexual activity, defined as any activity by which a person is sexually aroused, was created by God for a man and woman to enjoy in a monogamous, heterosexual marriage relationship and by mutual consent. Any form of homosexuality, lesbianism, bisexuality, incest, fornication, adultery, and pornography are sinful perversions of God’s gift of sex. The husband and wife are of equal worth before God. A husband is called to love his wife as Christ loved the church. A wife is to submit herself graciously to her husband’s Christ-like servant-leadership even as the church willingly submits to the headship of Christ. God hates divorce and every effort must be made to protect the lifetime covenant. The Pastoral Team of this congregation retains all authority to choose for whom they perform marriage ceremonies based their Biblically-informed consciences. (Genesis 2:18-25; Matthew 19:4-6; I Corinthians 7:1-7; Ephesians 5:22-33; I Peter 3:1-7; Malachi 2:16; Matthew 19:6-9; Matthew 5:31-32; I Corinthians 7:10-16; I Tim. 3:2; Titus 1:6; I Corinthians 7:5; Hebrews 13:4; I Thessalonians 4:3-5; Matthew 5:28; I John 2:16; Revelation 19:7-9)

  • Salvation

Man’s sin merits death and separation from God. Jesus, the sinless God-man, came to take man’s sin upon himself, bearing the death that sinful man deserved, and to offer His perfect righteousness in return. The lost must cease to rely on his own righteousness and choose to rely on God’s exclusive provision of imputed and infused righteousness through Jesus. In salvation, God alone draws, regenerates, justifies, sanctifies, and glorifies the sinner who responds to His grace in faith.

    3

    (Romans 3; Galatians 3:22; Romans 10:9-10; Romans 6:23; Philippians 3:4-11; Hebrews 7:25; John 10:10; I Timothy 2:5-6; Romans 5:1,8)

  • The Church

The local family of the redeemed in Christ. Christ covenants with the church, his bride, in a permanent and exclusive love relationship. This relationship between Christ and church is illustrated by the biblical view of human marriage between one man and one woman in a permanent, exclusive one-flesh union Members of this church should seek to resolve all disputes under the headship of Christ and the leadership of the Pastoral Team rather than the secular courts so the world might see the love of Christ in us. (Matthew 16:15-19; Acts 2:41-42,47; 5:11-14; 6:3-6; 13:1-3; 14:23,27; 15:1-30; 16:5; 20:28; 1 Corinthians 1:2; 5:4-5; Ephesians 1:22-23; 2:19-22; 3:21; 5:22-32; Colossians 1:18; 1 Timothy 3:1-15; 4:14; 1 Peter 5:1-4; Revelation 2-3; Genesis 2:18-24; I Corinthians 7:1-5; Ephesians 5:22-33; I Peter 3:1-7; I Cor. 6:1-8; Eph. 4:31-32; Matt 18:15-17)

  • Missions

We believe that God has given the church a great commission to proclaim the Gospel to all nations so that there might be a great multitude from every nation, tribe, ethnic group, and language group who believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. As ambassadors of Christ, we must use all available means to go where we are called and not wait for them to come to us. (Matt. 28:19-20; Mark 16:15; Luke 24:46-48; John 20:21; Acts1:8; 2 Cor. 5:20)

  • Giving

We believe that every Christian, as a steward of that portion of God’s wealth entrusted to him, is instructed by God to support the local church. We believe that God has established the tithe as a basis for giving, but that every Christian should also give sacrificially and cheerfully to the support of the church, the relief of those in need, and the spread of the Gospel. We believe that a Christian relinquishes all rights to direct the use of the gift once it is made to the church. (Prov. 3:9-10; Acts 4:34-37; I Cor. 16:2; 2 Cor. 9:6-7; Gal. 6:6; Eph. 4:28; I Tim. 5:17-18; I John 3:17)

  • Last things

God, in His own time and in His own way, will bring the world to its appropriate end. According to His promise, Jesus Christ will return personally and visibly in glory to the earth; the dead will be raised; and Christ will judge all men in righteousness. The unrighteous will be consigned to Hell, the place of everlasting punishment. The righteous in their resurrected and glorified bodies will receive their reward and will dwell forever in Heaven with the Lord. (Isaiah 2:4; Matthew 16:27; 18:8-9; 19:28; 24:27,30,31,36,44; 25:31-46; 26:64; Mark 8:38; 9:43-48; Luke 12:40,48; 16:19-26; 17:22-37; 21:27-28; John 14:1-3; Acts 1:11; 17:31; Romans 14:10; 1 Corinthians 4:5; 15:24-28,35-58; 2 Corinthians 5:10; Philippians 3:20-21; Colossians 1:5; 3:4; 1 Thessalonians 4:14-18; 5:1-11; 2 Thessalonians 1:7-12; 2; 1 Timothy 6:14; 2 Timothy 4:1,8; Titus 2:13; Hebrews 9:27-28; James 5:8; 2 Peter 3:7-18; 1 John 2:28; 3:2; Jude 14,15; Revelation 1:18; 3:11; 20:1-22:13).
